Mark Scanlon out at UFC on Versus 3, Matt Brown awaiting new opponent

UFC matchmaker Joe Silva's job is never done.

While a bevy of new fight announcements were issued on Thursday, another apparently fell apart during the flourish.

MMAjunkie.com
(www.mmajunkie.com) has learned that Brit Mark Scanlon (7-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has been forced to withdraw from a previously reported contest with Matt Brown (11-10 MMA, 4-4 UFC) at the upcoming UFC on Versus 3 event.

The welterweight bout had been expected for the evening's preliminary card.

Featuring a welterweight matchup between perennial contenders Martin Kampmann and Diego Sanchez, UFC on Versus 3 takes place March 3 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky.

Brown was fortunate to receive another fight in the UFC, and for a time, his future in the organization looked uncertain. "The Ultimate Figher 7" cast member won four of his first five UFC fights, and the lone loss came via split decision to still-undefeated Dong Hyun Kim. But he's stuck in a three-fight losing streak with submission losses to Ricardo Almeida, Chris Lytle and Brian Foster.

Scanlon, a British fighter, opened his career with a 7-0 record (with six first-round stoppages) on the U.K. fight circuit before signing with the UFC in late 2010. He made his promotional debut as a late replacement for Kenny Robertson at UFC 122 in Germany and suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Pascal Krauss.
